Many people that are not in Colorado still might think that there is still little snow on the ground and that is far from the truth as we have been getting lots of snow lately here in Aspen Co.

We had the opportunity to talk to a member of the USA Ski team and he said that the conditions in Aspen were some of the best in North America and this was before we had the multiple 4 inch plus storms that came in back to back to back. The weather has been really good warm but not to warm and the nights have been quite cold preserving all that we have gotten.

The ASE airport has even been shut down because of the snowfall we had one Aspen Airport closure last week where lots of people were shuttles to Eagle Vail or to Denver International.

Aspen Atlantic Avaition

There are lots of people in Aspen, a little early for the Christmas New Years holidays. The ride into town is long and they are even getting lines at Atlantic Aviation and speaking of flying the only one not getting lines right now is Brooke Mueller as she is in rehab as we understand and is not in Aspen right now.

Brooke’s not so cheap criminal defense lawyer, the best money can buy, asked for more time so she will not be appearing in Aspen courthouse until right around a month from now.

Speaking of snow we understand that the next that we can anticipate will be coming in next Friday which is perfect for all those flying  in to Aspen . A good idea is that if you are going to be needing a airport taxi or Aspen airport shuttle to make you reservations early.

What a good crowd that showed up last night at the Inn at Aspen for the annual event that gets the local business owners and marketing people together to do some serious networking and enjoyment of some awesome food and drink. We ran into several of the concierge of the major hotels including the Aspen Square, Hotel Jerome and Silvertree in Snowmass.  there were plenty of transportation companies with Aspen’s Snow Limo having at least 5 people milling around

It seemed as if all of the available table were taken and everyone had their wares out for all to see. It was a great event to catch up with old friends as well as people that we have done business with in the past. Poor Gretchen of the Square had laryngitis but trooper-ed on anyway. We also saw Suzie from the Hotel Jerome that we know from back in the old days at the now totally gone Cooper Street Pier and a new friend Bradley Smith of the Red Onion which we thought was goneers but is still in business Asked him what do you recomend and he said come on in and try the fajitas, you will not be disappointed, I am sure we will not be.

We certainly will look forward to attending these taste of Aspen or Taste of Winter events in the future and we hope to see you there as well.

I was at the Verizon store as I need to break down and get a new phone and the Droid Razor looks to be a cool bet. Got conflicting signals, pardon the pun, from the ever efficient and unflappable store personal. She was saying that if I wait maybe 2 weeks that Verizon will have a Christmas special and I can get a 2 for 1 deal, which would take the bite out of the $300 down and a two year contract that they want for the latest and greatest from Motorola and Google. My roommate is also in the market for a new phone so he said he would love to buy the 2nd one from me. He works for a Aspen Limo company and he too wants to be able to offer the wifi capabilities to his customers that we get on Aspen Airport Snow days that need to check flights en route to either Eagle Vail EGE or Denver International DIA to Aspen

So the first signal was wait then she went on to say that they are trying to sell as many of the 4g phones as they can as if there are a lot in the area they might being Verizon bring the 4G network in faster to Aspen which should see an upgrade in the next 6 to 12 months. I am hoping for sooner as I want the Razor for the tethering and if you have a 4g connection like in Denver you can tether 8 phones rater than 5. You will also have faster download and upload speeds.

She also mentioned that if you get a data plan for a 4G device before the new year that you can get 4gig rather than 2 gig and I tell you I was a bit unsettled when i heard that you could not get a unlimited data plan like I have now I guess Aspen and Snowmass will need to wait till there is some real competition in the market like a stronger AT&T or one of the other new networks that are starting up of course the main problem is our beloved snow covered mountains.

In Bali getting ready to head back to Aspen for the winter. I have been watching the Aspen weather via a gadget on my computer and from what I can see it has been snowing fairly regualrly in the Aspen Snopwmass area for the past month while I was gone. Mount Soporis all ready had snow on top when I left and it looked like it was there to stay for the winter.

We are really looking forward to a banner year in Aspen as we feel that there will be a demand as people were freaking out and rightly so over the economy but 3 years into it people are relizing yes the sky fell but for the most part it is business as usual.

With the new Sardy Field airport extension on line and American Airlines now sending direct flights in to aspen from two big regioanl markets Dalas and Los Angeles if Frontier stays in business for the wiunter season there should be lots of people flying into Aspen from literly all over the world as LAX is a major hub for Asia and Dallas a Central and South Americia gate way to the USA. We like the fact also as we come through there often that LAX will now have 2 airlines competing for my money and I for one am hoping that cheaper flights LAX to ASE on the non stops will become somewhat available. Currently paying that $100 premuim for the privialge of not stopping in Denver to Aspen and the chance of course of getting stranded there for the night becuase Aspen is snowed in.

There are some new hotels that are affordable outside the airport but hey who want to give up a day in the Roaring Fork Vally to spend it 15 miles outside of Denver in a Wheat field?

Aspen Airport ASE

Aspen Airport is closed today which will be the last day that it is closed for the airport expansion, However when it reopens it does not neccessarily mean that the construction closures are over and the reason is this some of the avionics might not be finished yet so tail winds over 6 knots can still have it where the  Aspen to Denver flights are cancelled.
If you find that your flight has been cancelled don’t hesitate and get on a SnowLimo list over in the arrival area and they will get you to Denver DIA or Eagle Vail EGE faster than any of the other vendors in Aspen airport.  They can take there SUV’s over independence pass which I might add is quite beautiful at this time of the year.  Snowlimo is the only locval company in the airport and all of their drivers are local which means that they can get the drivers there to move you even when it is in the dead period between seasons and most of the vendors are not staffed for last minuite unexpected Aspen Airport Closures.

It had been a while since I have seen the incredible beauty that is Aspen Colorado in the fall season when the trees are in their fall colors!

I had been on a long Motorcycle ride from aspen to Chicago and then on to Montreal including two days riding above the great lakes and the best views of the entire trip were when I got back to Aspen coming in on Hy 82 from over Independence pass. Wow was all I could think I had to slow down as the colors were overwhelming.

Twin Lakes which is just 44 miles from Aspen was so colorful and as it is a historic town the pictures there were incredible the cars were all pulling over to take pictures of this yearly wonder.

During the ideas festival we had the chance to talk to one of the representatives for the area and asked her why Airport taxis airports shuttles and hotel shuttles, which are all HOV vehicles, could not use the bus lane from the airport into the round about.  Her response was that if they allowed anything but RAFTA buses that they would lose the federal matching money used to build the lanes and would have to pay the fed back.

Now it seems to me with all of the crap that is going on like losing 16 billion in Afghanistan (did they look behind the couch) the trillions lost in the bank meltdowns (I want to see some bank exec and hedge fund guys put up in a tree like they use to do in these parts to horse thieves) that they could write an amendment and get it passed, because the idea behind mass transit is to reduce emissions and you are gonna have a real hard time convincing me that 250 cars stuck in the round about for 45 min is not adding to the problem.

Maybe we can do some horse trading and get a informal aggreement that the local enforcement officials will turn a blind eye to Airport HOV machines and allow some of us to transit in a eco friendly way!

Electricity has been having its way with the Aspen Airport ASE has there have been a couple of incidences of the runway lights not working. We have not heard why the lights are not working just that the airport has closed before dusk for two nights in a row.
